International / Overseas Licence Conversion
Experienced drivers holding licences from recognised licence countries need to do following:
Pass a driving theory test.This can only be done at a Service SA Customer Service Centre or Online.
Once this has been successfully completed theory test, you will be issued with a Temporary Permit on which you will be able to drive for a period of 90 days.

During this time you will be required to successfully pass a VORT (Vehicle On Road Test) in order to obtain your Australian Driving Licence.
We would recommend ensuring that your driving is up to Australian Standards prior to attempting VORT
The expectations of VORT are quite specific and it is important to understand the testing criteria before booking your practical.
****If you not pass VORT in 90 days, Learner Permit restrictions apply.
****If you have an overseas driver's licence or permit, you must get a South Australian driver's licence or permit within 3 months of becoming a permanent resident of South Australia.
GET your L
To get L (Learner Permit) you must:
16 years or older
pass theory test OR complete my L's online (can enrolled after 15 Years & 9 Months years old)
Learner permit has following Restrictions must follow by Learner Driver:
must drive with a Qualified Supervising Driver in the seat next to the driver
must not drive a motor vehicle with any concentration of alcohol or Substance
exceed the speed limit by 10 km/h or more
must not accumulate four or more demerit points during the learner’s permit period
must only drive the class of motor vehicle stated on your permit
must display the correct size ‘L’ plates so that they are clearly visible from the front and rear of the vehicle
must carry your learner’s permit at all times whilst driving
must not drive over 100 km/h even if the local speed limit exceeds 100 km/h
must not use any mobile phone function while driving including hands-free mode, Bluetooth technology and loud speaker operation
Who is Qualified Supervising Driver?
have an unconditional licence authorising the person to drive a Class C vehicle (or an equivalent foreign licence as approved by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles)
have held an unconditional/full licence for the last 2 years without disqualification
not hold a provisional or probationary licence
not be subject to the condition of “good behaviour”
not have a blood alcohol reading of 0.05 or more, or the presence of THC (Cannabis), Methylamphetamine
GET your P1
To get P1 (Provisional Licence) you must:
17 years or older
pass hazard perception test
if you are under the age of 25 you must hold your learner’s permit for at least 12 months.
if you are aged 25 or over you must hold your learner’s permit for at least 6 months.
complete 75 hours (includes minimum 15 hours at night) of Qualified supervised driving
pass VORT (Vehicle On Road Test)
OR
CBT&A (Competency Based Training & Assessment)
P1 Provisional Licence has following Restrictions must follow by Driver:
must not drive a motor vehicle with any concentration of alcohol or substance.
must not exceed any speed limit by 10 km/h or more.
must not accumulate four or more demerit points
must only drive the class of motor vehicle stated on your licence.
must carry your provisional licence at all times whilst driving.
must not drive a high-powered vehicle while you are under the age of 25 (unless you have an exemption certificate).
must not drive over 100 km/h even if the local speed limit exceeds 100 km/h.
must display the correct size ‘P’ plates so they are clearly visible from the front and rear of the vehicle.
must not use any mobile phone function while driving, including hands free mode, Bluetooth technology and loud speaker operation.
If under the age of 25 years, you must not drive between midnight and 5am or with more than one passenger aged 16 to 20 years Unless a Qualified Supervising Driver is seated next to you.
GET your P2
To get P2 (Provisional Licence) you must:
18 years or older
must have held a P1 licence for 12 months
P2 Provisional Licence has following Restrictions must follow by Driver:
must not drive a motor vehicle with any concentration of alcohol or substance.
must not exceed any speed limit by 10 km/h or more.
must not accumulate four or more demerit points
must only drive the class of motor vehicle stated on your licence.
must carry your provisional licence at all times whilst driving.

Full Australian Licence
To get Full South Australian Licence you must:
20 years or older
have held a P2 licence for 2 years
Any condition on Australian Licence must be follow.
VORT (Vehicle On Road Test)
The Vehicle On Road Test will test your skills and knowledge as a safe and competent driver. It may take up to 45 minutes to complete all elements of your test includes general drive & 5 slow speed manoeuvres.
The general drive component will test your driving skills e.g. changing lanes, turning on and from busy roads, turning at traffic lights, negotiating roundabouts, stop and give-way signs, your interaction with other road users and the system of car control.
You will be required to demonstrate 5 slow speed manoeuvres:
Move Off from Kerb
3-Point Turn
90° or 45° Angle Park
Reverse Parallel Park and
U-turn in Traffic
To pass a VORT, you must demonstrate 5 slow speed manoeuvres and in combination with the general drive score a pass mark of 90 or more and not breach any road law during the drive. Any breach of road law will result in an immediate fail and the test will be terminated.
If you are unsuccessful, your instructor will debrief you on the reasons why?
Immediate fail Items:
Disobeys Traffic Lights, Signs, Road Markings
Fail to Give Way
Drives in a manner dangerous or without due care/attention/consideration.
Exceeds speed Limit
Examiner Intervenes (ie to cancel signal, to stop, etc)
Fails to comply with examiner reasonable directions.
